Garema Place

By Megan Cartwright

Head close to cracked, the junkie backflips.

His girlfriend—crescent moon midriff and sway back—

teeters barefoot at an invisible crevasse.

Gap-toothed, the woman in a baseball cap sells The Big Issue

The bigger issue is the corporate douche, polyester suit

beer slicked. Wild-eyed, he dares passers-by: This is comedy.

Megan Cartwright (she/her) is an Australian author and Literature teacher. Her poetry has featured in publications including Contemporary Verse 2, Cordite Poetry Review, Island Magazine and The Opiate
